Austin Metro Ranks No. 6 Nationally for Population Growth

The Austin metro keeps adding residents at one of the fastest rates in the country, even as population growth slows across much of the U.S.

The numbers:

  • No. 6 U.S. metro for total population growth

  • 53,796 residents added between July 2024 and July 2025

  • 2.62M people now live in the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos metro

  • Williamson County added 23,814 residents in one year

  • Caldwell County grew 4.2%

  • U.S. metro areas overall grew just 0.6% during the same period

Taken together, the numbers show Austin's economic footprint continuing to expand outward. The growth is increasingly regional. The Census Bureau found that many of Texas' fastest-growing counties are now on the outer edges of major metros, as population expands beyond the urban core.
