The Austin metro keeps adding residents at one of the fastest rates in the country, even as population growth slows across much of the U.S.
The numbers:
No. 6 U.S. metro for total population growth
53,796 residents added between July 2024 and July 2025
2.62M people now live in the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos metro
Williamson County added 23,814 residents in one year
Caldwell County grew 4.2%
U.S. metro areas overall grew just 0.6% during the same period
Taken together, the numbers show Austin's economic footprint continuing to expand outward. The growth is increasingly regional. The Census Bureau found that many of Texas' fastest-growing counties are now on the outer edges of major metros, as population expands beyond the urban core.
