Austin Ranks No. 2 Nationally for Job Growth

Austin's labor market is still expanding at one of the fastest rates in the country, even as job growth slows nationally.

The numbers:

  • No. 2 among the 50 largest U.S. metros for job growth
  • 23,800 jobs added year over year
  • 1.7% employment growth across the Austin metro (0.2% nationally)
  • Professional and Business Services added 9,200 jobs
  • Construction added 5,200 jobs
  • Manufacturing added 1,400 jobs
  • Austin unemployment sits at 4.0%

The growth isn't coming from a single sector. Professional services, construction, and manufacturing are all adding jobs, suggesting Austin's economy is continuing to broaden alongside its technology base.
