ACL, Formula 1, football and major conferences bring plenty of crowds to Austin, and together, those visitors support a surprisingly large piece of the local economy.
The numbers:
30M+ people visit Austin each year
$11.4B in annual visitor spending
151,700 local jobs supported
$1.1B in taxes generated by the tourism industry
2.1M+ passengers traveled through Austin-Bergstrom in June, setting a monthly airport record
Tourism spending stretches well beyond hotels and major events. Visitors spend across restaurants, bars, transportation, retail, entertainment and local services, creating demand for businesses that may never consider themselves part of the tourism industry.
The city is currently rebuilding its convention center in a $1.6B project expected to reopen in 2029 with 70% more rentable space, giving Austin significantly more capacity to compete for conventions and major events.
